When I moved to New Orleans, I didn't drive my Z for 2 years. I cancelled my insurance, but forgot to cancel the registration and turn in the plates. When I wanted to re-insure it, my insurance said that since I never cancelled the plates, they considered me to have been having driven the car for the whole time without insurance and my rates SKYROCKETED. My old Insurance company wouldn't even re-insure me, neither would almost any other insurance company. Finally I found Progressive (I think), but my rates went up something like 1,000%. (10 TIMES) They wanted $8,000+/yr for the same coverage I had in TX for $800/yr! I had to get 10-20-10 liability for the first 6 or 12 months, and it was something like $1,500/6 months! That was with 1 ticket for 10 over and being 32 years old! Be VERY careful, you might want to just get your Z re-insured ASAP to avoid a lot of financial heartache.
